Extract from the log of the Shipy "Mermaid,” Captain Gill, arrived at Macao on the 6th Instant,

The Mermaid" left Manila on the 22nd Oct at 3 P. M. N. T. in company with the ship An. thony Anderson," she having left in the morning, both bound to China with a cargo of rice, with baffling westerly wind and easterly currents, wo- did not arrive off cape Capones, until, Thursday 24th, the following is from our log.

Thursday 24th P. M. Fresh westerly breeze in- creasing, with cloudy morning, Barometer steady, Sunset breeze increasing. Dowa royal yards and Masts, in Flying Jibbom.

At 8, F. 1. Squally unsettled weather, Furled Top Gallant saile. Midnight increasing breezs stowed the jib, lowering the topsails to occasionad squalis, at 3 passed the "Anthony Anderson" on the opposite tuck.

Saturday 26th at 2 r. M. let go the best bower, and brought up in 15 fathoms water furled sails, breeeze moderating and sea going down fast. Ex- tremes of the Bay N, W. by W. to S. S. E., 4 mile off shore, Authony Anderson at anchor half a mile to the northward, Ship, pitciring and rolling to a heavy swell, At 4. quite moderate, with passing squalls of rain, and thick cloudy appearances over the land, crew employed repairing dimages.

The following extract details some further par. ticulars:-

"On Sunday afternoon last the Repulse, In- Sunday 27th at 5 r.. boarded by a boat from diaman, 1.424 tons, came into the bay; she had the Anthony Anderson with Captain Splat, who suffered a deal of bad weather on the coast, and reported having lost, fore yard, fore topsail has lost all her boats, and nearly on her sails; yard jibboom and sprung his main yard, also lost has carried away part of her main rigging, and several sails rendering it uncertain whether be would received some other little damage. caulking after such violent straining, suma part of her cargo will have to be landed. I hear that during the height of the gale she frequently rolled her yard-arms in the water, and you may form some idea of the sea there must have been running, when I tell you that her poop most be at least 20 feet above the water. The Prince of Warterloo, bark, came in with her, she had kept company with her during the last 6 or 7 days, in case she should require any assistance. I forgot name that the Repulse, threw overboord about 300 tons of cargo.".

Throughout the gale, the ships head being from N. by W. to N. W. and W. N. W. with the wind gradually drawing found from West to S. W and being of Cape Capones at its commencement, pro ves the strength of the SEly current, by finding ourselves to the S. E. of the Cape, when by our reckoning, we were to the northward, had which been the case, the loss of the ship would in all pro- bability have taken place, the coast running nearly north and south with no anchorage, on a dead lee

shore.
