The value of Mr. Thom's book to that portion of the Mercantile class, who are likely to come into contact will the British, is attested by the large sale which this work has met with, among the native community at Canton. And while it is intended to teach the Chinese, English, yet to those Chinese Students who have some acquaintance with the language and wish to obtain more; kapw no work of equal utility, and of such whose objects are commercial, this work will be found of inappreciable value, particularly at Shanghai and Ningpo.
