FROM FAGE FIRST,
THE FRIEND OF CHINA AND HONGKONG GAZETTE.
Assee states I know nothing of the robbery two men forced themselves into my boat about 5 oclock yester. day morning and wanted to go over to Kow-loon they slept in the boat, I dont know who they wers but- they left at day-break none of the prisoners were there we were those in the boat; but the two men were very strong; I was made prisoner next morning; I dont know Shaikh Ullee or the others.
Sentence-The prisoners are each sentenced to suffer a corporal punishment of 100 Strokes, and to be im- presoned in Chains with hard labour; Shaikh Ullée and Achong for 5 months and the other two prisoners for 3 months each Shaikh Ullee to pay the remaining 73 dollars to complaintant and all the prisoners are after the time of their punishment, to leave the Island.
The witness Akum a Chinese woinen is sentenced to pay a fine of 20 dollars to the Queen for the part she acted with regard to the money, which she must have supposed to have been stolen,
We have got into our possession a Chinese document from Amoy of rather an extraordinary nature, and as the paper was geuorally circulated at Amoy and Koolongssoo, we hesitate not in giving below a translation with which we have been favored. It affords but another instance, of the many to be mot with at present of the levelling tendency of our times, the issue of the circular being attributed to American Missionarias now at Amoy, who, in fact, are the only Americans there, and, who, acting as Agents for a Canton firm, entertain, no doubt, a wish of cementing the two worlds tugather, and bare pitahed upon- Babes as the connecting link. The following is translation of
the widely-eprend paper in question.
