With reference to the circulars of this Agency, re Iating to Steam Vessels, Steam Engines, Sugar Mills, Machinery &o, which I have heretofore, on various ccasions, had the honor of addressing you, 1, beg to ou, that there were built in this port, during steamers, 10 ships, 2 barks, & brigs, neres and 10 sloops, making an aggregate
mong the number were four steam vessels of war; Viz, the U. States Steam Frigate "Mis- souri of about 2,000 tons, the "Kamschatka, of about the same tonnage, ordered by His Majesty, the Emperor of Russia and the Regent" and "Congress" of about 660 tons each, ordered for the naval service of the Island of Cuba, The U. S. Steam Frigate "Mis- sissipi, of the same tonnage and power of engines with the Missouri, has been built-and completed at the U. S Navy Yard, Philadelphia, during the same period.
Those steamers were built of the best
the most faithful and substantial manner, so as to en- sure the greatest poss ble strength and durability. Their frames are composed of solid well seasoned timbor, copper fastened secured with extra diagonal braces, and transverse fastenings of wood and iron, from stem to stern, caulked inside and out, to light water line, then planked, caulked, and coppered in the usual man. ner; each fitted up with double low presure marine engines, of adequate power. They combine all the latest improvements in their construction, machinery. and armaments, each mounting Paixan guns, and are considered equal, if not superior, in strength, efficiency, and speed, to any steamers of their respective classes afloat. In addition to the above, there have also been built and fitted out for the Mexican Navy, two fast sailing armed schooners, of about 200 tons each, also mounted with Faixan guns.

As I have passed along the roads now making have been struck at seeing the ill appreciation of what in Europe is held to be of primary importance, I mean the economy of human time. Scientific Commander.-Captain Carpenter is bav. the piannce of the Geyser Steam Frigate, to which he has been lately appointed fitted with his own patent propeller. The Admirality have given permission to have a small engine of 5 or 6 horses power from the Dise Company for the purpose There is little doubt of this portable steam tug being of great service in towing boats with troops &c, up the rivers and canals in China, to which station the Geyser is supposed to be destined. Notwithstanding the number of steamers in the service now, there is not one of Her Majesty's steam vessels employed ither in India or China.
