Remarks. The preceding Returns have been compiled from the entries in the Books kept at this Office. The quantities specified are those that have been paid or been declared for assessment of duty. The weights and measures stated are those in use at Shanghae. 1 catty is equal to 11⁄2 pound avoir- dupois, and 100 catties correspond with 1334 pounds in England. 1 chang is 4 English yards nearly. The value given has been computed upon the average prices of the year in the Shanghae Market. The reduction of the Spanish dollars into Sterling has been made at the average Exchange of the year. of 6/3 per dollar. When trade under Foreign Flags has been included; the information has been Aived from official records when they were accessible,
