GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
Circular to Her Majesty's Consular Authorities in China.
Officiating Cousul.
Whereas it has come to the knowledge of this Superintendency, that temporary Sailing Letters have been granted by some of Her Majesty's Consular Authoritjes in China, permitting the use of the British Flag it is hereby notified, that no such Sailing Letters can be legally issued, except by the Chief Superintendent of Trade; and, in cases where Certificates are granted by Consuls to any Vessel not possessing but entitled to a Register, such Certificate only ensures protection to a Vessel while on the way to a Port where a formal Register is to b
obtsin.
