LETTER OF PROCEEDINGS OF “CLOWN.”

HER MAJESTY'S GUNBOAT Clown, HONGKONG, 13th May, 1859. SIR,I have the honour to report for your information the result of my proceedings in search of a piratical Junk that had plunder. Hongkong Fishing-boat on the evening of the 11th instant.

Having communicated with the Superintendent of Police, and received on board a Chief Constable, an Interpreter, and the two men t had been robbed, I weighed at 2 r.. yesterday, and proceeded through the Fou-tow-moon passage, where every place that could give: shelter to Junks was carefully examined, but without success. I now proceeded to Po-o-to Bay, where the Fishermen expected the Pirates! escaped to. On our opening this bay, four large piratical Junks were discovered pulling and sailing for the shore.

The water now h to shoal fast, and being in a good position to cover my boats, I sent them away armed in charge of Mr Gilpin, 21 Master, to capture and by them alongside, but immediately the boats shoved off, the men in the Junks began to jump overboard and escape, and on the boats boar: them were found quite deserted. One of these Junks fortunately turned out to be the very one that had plundered the Fisherman, an! board was found his bed, and a quantity of his boats' gear, which I had returned to him. Having destroyed the Junks I anchored for : night with the intention of examining Shelter Bay in the morning, and then proceeding to Hongkong.

A small sampan, containing a man and woman with two children, came alongside during the evening, and explained that they had - taken by these Pirates six days ago. They asked for protection and to be taken to Hongkong where they belonged.

From these people I received information that the Pirates had landed a number of Guns, Gingalls and Spears, in a small hut on beach; this I had examined, and found 3 large Guns, with a number of Spears; these I had destroyed.

This morning I proceeded to examine Shelter Bay, but found it quite clear of all Junks; I now returned to this anchorage where arrived at Noon this day.-I have the honour to be, Sir, your most obedient servant,

(Signed,)

WILLIAM F. LEE, Lieutenant Commanding.
