No. 4 of 1859.
By His Excellency SIR HERCULES George ROBERT ROBINSON, Knight, Governor and Commander-in Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, with the Advice » the Legislative Council of Hongkong.
An Ordinance to apply a Sum not exeecding Ninety Thousand Pounds to the Public Service of the Year 180.
[21st November, 1859.]
Whereas the Expenditure required for the Service of this Colony for the Year 1860, has been estimated : the Sum of Eighty-nine Thousand Six Hundred and Twenty-five Pounds, Eighteen Shillings, and Eight Pence: Be it enacted and ordained by His Excellency the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislativ. Council thereof, as follows:-
A Sum not exceeding Ninoty Thousand Pounds shall bo and the samo is hereby charged upon the Revenue of this Colony for the Service of the Year 1860, and the said Sum so charged shall be expended a hereinafter specified, that is to my

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION,
A Fairway through the Harbour having been buoyed for the convenienco of River Steamers, it is hereby notified that the Harbour Master has received strict instructions to keep this clear of all Ships, Junks, Vessels, and Boats of any description whatsoever.
The inner line of Five Buoys is at an average distance of 200 yards from the shore, and 450 yards apart, painted Red, and marked with the odd numbers from 1 to 9.
The outer Buoys are moored 120 yards from the inner line, are four in number, and marked with the even numbers from 2 to 8; theso are painted White, tho Buoys at the extremities having Basket Beacons thereon for the purpose of more clearly defining the Fairway.

The subjoined Extract from letter of the Honourable The Surveyor General, conveying information on the subject of Water Supply, having been furnished on individual application, is hereby placed before the Public generally.

"Regarding all existing arrangements for the supply of Water to this Town, including all Reservoirs, Tanks, Water-pipes, Drainage &c., for the purpose of the proper competing for the further supply, I have the honour to report that the present arrangements are so simple, being merely intended for the supply of the Gaol, Police Station, Government House and Offices, and a few Fire-cocks in the vicinity of the buildings, they will not affect in any degree a general scheme which may be proposed for the collection of water for the supply of the whole town.
"The Tanks in existence having pipes therefrom, are those at Glencaly, Wyndham Street, and Union Chapel; namely, Glenealy 255 feet above the sea, containing 30,000 gallons. A 6-inch main is taken to Giencaly Gate, one branch service pipe is thence taken to Government House, and another 4-inch pipe proceeds to the summit of Caine Road, 223 feet above the sea, from which 2 3-inch pipe is laid down passing
