The Contract for publishing this Gazette, entered into on the 24th September, 1853, was terminated on the 30th ultimo ; and notice is hereby ven that a NEW SERIES of this Gazette will be published hereafter, to commence from the 7th instant, under a New Contract, and that

ill, as before, be the only Official Organ for PROCLAMATIONS, NOTIFICATIONS, and PUBLIC PAPERS, of this Government.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
OBSERVE.
COLOMBO, CETLON, 20th September, 1859. CEYLON. THE COLOMBO LIGHT will be under repairs from the 1st of February to the 1st of April 1860, during which time there Le a temporary Light upon the Clock Tower, upon which much dependence cannot be placed. Ships approaching Colombo by night aid therefore be very cautious, and keep their Deep Sea lead going. It is worthy of remark, that if soundings off Ceylon be got between dirty and Forty fathoms, the Ship is within Five or Six leagues of the land, and had better not near till daylight.

His Excellency the Governor is pleased to direct the publication of the following communication from the cretary to the Red Sea and Indian Telegraph Company, announcing the opening of the line between Aden and Alexandria on the 1st current.

RED SEA AND INDIAN TELEGRAPH COMPANY,

LONDON, 10th September, 1859. SIR, I am instructed to inform you that the Directors of the Red Sea and Indian Telegraph Company have decided upon opening the Pretion of their line between Alexandria and Aden, for the transmission of messages on the 1st October next.
I am further instructed to enclose a print of the Official Notification of the Scale of Charges which have been provisionally fixed by the Board.I have the honour to be, Sir, your obedient Servant,
