GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
The subjoined Post Office Notification is published for general information.

Colonial Secretary's Office, Victoria, Hongkong, 4th August, 1860.
POST OFFICE NOTIFICATION.
It is hereby notified for Public information, that in future a Clerk from this Department will attend on board the Mail Packets to receive Letters, &c., for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, both vid Marseilles and Southampton, and also for Singapore.
These Letters will be subjected to a "Late Fee" of 1s. 6d. each, in addition to the Postage. The Post Office Clerk will be in attendance in the Saloon of the Packet from half-an-hour before her departure up to 10 Minutes of the time of her leaving, after which time no Letters will be received on board.

In compliance with instructions received from His Grace The Duke of Newcastle, Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Colonial Department, directing that "an inquiry should be instituted into “the abuses which have been alleged to exist in the Civil Service of Hongkong generally, and, especi- "ally, into the alleged tampering of some of the subordinate departments in that service with the “ malversation, corruption, and piratical practices, of part of the Chinese Community in or frequent- "ing the Colony," Ilis Excellency the Governor has determined that such inquiry shall take place before the Governor in Executive Council who will sit for that purpose in the Council Chainber on the 13th day of August next, at Noon, and on such subsequent days as may then be determined on. All persons capable of giving information in furtherance of the proposed investigation are desired to attend the Sittings of the Council, which will be held with open doors.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
Whereas early this morning the Police Constables ADO ANTONIO da Rocira, and Joaquim Maria, while in the execution of their duty, were wilfully murdered by a Gang of Chinese Burglars in or neur Jercois Street in this City:-
Notice is hereby given, that A FREE PARDON and A REWARD OF FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS will be given to any Person, the actual Perpetrators of the Murders excepted,—-who shall give such information as shalf lead to the apprehension and conviction of one or more of the Guilty Parties.
