for certain duties performed by him under the Act referred to,--as also of extending to th Colony certain provisions of l'art III of the Merchant Shipping Act 1854. The subject was discussed, and two Bills for carrying out the proposed measures were then laid on the

Table, and read a first time.

The Governor stated that, in pursuance of instructions from Home, the Post Office at Hongkong would, from to-morrow, be transferred to the control of the Colonial Government.--The Correspondence that had taken place on the subject with the Home Authorities was then communicated to the Council, as also a Statement by the Acting Postmaster showing the Establishment necessary for conducting the Postal Service in the Colony with the estimated cost of the Department, which had been authorized by His Excellency, pending the passing of the usual Supplementary Esti- mate which will be submitted to the Council towards the close of the Year.

His Excellency stated that arrangements were in progress for carrying into effect the Scheme submitted by Mr. Rawling for supplying the City with Water; and the Council agreed to vote in due time the amount required for the proposed Works.

The Council then adjourned to Saturday, the 12th of May, at Noon.

An Ordinance to amend the Law in relation to the Grant and Revocation of

Probates of Wills and Letters of Administration in Hongkong.

[30th April, 1860.]

Whereas it is expedient to amend the Law in relation to the Grant and Revocation of Probates of Wills and Letters of Administration within the Colony of Hongkong.

Be it therefore enacted and ordained by His Excellency, the Governor of Hong- kong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof as follows:-

I. Section Sixteen to Twenty-two both inclusive of Ordinance No. 6 of 1845 shall Sections of No. 6 of he and the same are hereby repealed.

"Administration shall comprehend all Letters of Administration of the Effects of deceased Persons, whether with or without the Will annexed, and whether granted for general, special, or limited Purposes.

"Matters and Causes Testamentary" shall comprehend all Matters and Causes

relating to the Grant and Revocation of Probate of Wills or of Administration.

"Common Form Business" shall mean the Business of obtaining Probate and Administration where there is no Contention as to the Right thereto, including the passing of Probates and Administrations through the Court of Probate in con- tentious Cases when the Content is terminated, and all business of a non-conten- tious Nature to be taken in the Court in Matters of Testacy and Intestacy, not being Proceedings in any Suit, and also the Business of lodging Caveats against the Grant of Probate or Administration.
