By His Excellency SIR HERCULES GEORGE ROBERT ROBINSON, Knight, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies, and Vice- Admiral of the same, with the Advice of the Legislative Council of Hongkong.

An Ordinance to repeal Ordinances No. 9 of 1844 and No. 1 of 1846.

Whereas in consequence of recent agreements with the Government of China it has become necessary to repeal Ordinances No. 9 of 1844 and No. 1 of 1846 whereby Persons within the Colony of Hongkong were prohibited from Trading in the Empire of China to the Northward of the 32nd Degree of North Latitude:

I. Be it enacted and ordained by His Excellency the Governor of Hongkong with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof that the said Ordinances No. 9 of 1844 and No. 1 of 1846 shall be, and the same hereby are, repealed from this date.

An Ordinance to repeal Ordinance No. 5 of 1857, and to adopt the ' Merchant

Shipping Act 1854' as respects Salvage.

Be it enacted and ordained by His Excellency the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:--

I. The Ordinance No. 5 of 1857 intituled "An Ordinance for Salvage and Prize in certain cases" is hereby repealed.

II. The Clauses of the Merchant Shipping Act 1854 mumbered from 441 to 473 and 475 & 478 inelu- inclusive, and also the Clauses numbered 475 and 478, shall, subject to the modifications ping Act 1854 adopt- hereinafter mentioned, be extended to this Colony.

III. In applying the said Clauses to this Colony the words "the Colony of Hong- expressions in adopt- kong" shall throughout the said Clauses be deemed to be substituted for the words "the United Kingdom," the words "the Governor of the Colony acting with the Advice of his Executive Council" (except in the 448th Clause) shall be deemed to be substituted for the words "the Board of Trade," the words "the Colonial Secretary shall be deemed to be substituted for the words "the Secretary of the Committee for managing the affairs of Lloyd's in London," and for the words "the Secretary of the Committee of Lloyd's," and in the 448th Clause the words "and shall send one Copy of the same " shall be deemed to be substituted for the words "and shall make two Copies of the same of which he shall send one to the Board of Trade and the other," and on the 473rd Clause the words "the Supreme Court of Hongkong" shall be deemed to be substituted for the words "any Court of Law, or Equity, or Admiralty having Jurisdiction in the matter."
