We, the undersigned, residents in Hongkong desire to convey to Your Excellency (on the eve of your departure for England) the expression of our esteem and the assurance of our best wishes for your happiness.
The three years during which you have discharged the duties of Governor of this Colony, have been marked by its rapid progress in prosperity, population and wealth. We gladly recognize the indefatigable zeal and efficiency with which you have ever applied yourself to the exigencies of the public welfare and promoted works of general utility.
We beg to convey to Lady Robinson and yourself the assurance that you leave behind you many who cordially appreciate the kindness and urbanity which have characterized your private intercourse with the members of the community.
We wish you a pleasant and prosperous voyage and a happy reunion with your family, and hope that your temporary absence from amongst us may be attended with the blessing of recruited health and enjoyment of your visit to England.
