OF HONGKONG.

No. 4 OF 1862.

SATURDAY, 22ND MARCH, 1862.

PRESENT:

His Excellency The GOVERNOR, and all the Members.

The Council met to-day, pursuant to adjournment.

The Minutes of the Council held on the 17th instant, were read and approved.

The Chief Justice presented the Report of the Select Committee on the Bill for the appointment of two Police Magistrates, suggesting certain amendments therein; and the same having been received- The Council went into Committee on the Clauses of the said Bill; and after the adoption of the pro-

posed amendments, and others made in Committee,-

The Governor put the Question,That this Bill, as amended, do pass, and that the Title be "An "Ordinance to abolish the Offices of Chief Magistrate and Assistant Magistrate, and to appoint "and define the duties of Two Police Magistrates."

Question put and carried, the Ordinance being numbered “No. 6 of 1862.”

The Chief Justice presented the Report of the Select Committee on the Bill for the establishment of a

Court of Summary Jurisdiction and the appointment of a Judge thereof, suggesting amendments. therein; and the same having been received—

The Council went into Committee on the Clauses of the said Bill.

The proposed amendments were agreed to, and after the adoption of certain additions made in Com-

mittee,-

The Governor put the Question,-That this Bill, as amended, do pass, and that the Title be "An "Ordinance to establish a Court of Summary Jurisdiction, and to authorize the appointment of a

Judge thereof."

Question put and carried, the Ordinance being numbered “No. 7 of 1862.”

The Council adjourned to Wednesday, the 16th Proximo, at noon.
