Complaints having been frequently made by the Naval Agents in charge of H. M.'s Mails of delay incurred in the delivery of the Mail boxes from the Steamers in consequence of Persons rushing on board and barring the gangway, His Excellency the Acting Governor has ordered that a Police boat shall in future attend on every Mail Steamer, to prevent the Public from going on board by one of the gangways until the Mail boxes are delivered.
The Superintendent of the P. & O. S. N. Company has directed that the Port Gangway of the Mail Steamers shall always be used for the above purpose, and it is therefore notified that, with the exception of the Mail Boats, those of the Royal Navy and House Boats of the P. & O. Company, no other Boats will be permitted to haul alongside this gangway, till the Mails are cleared. The Com- manders of the Steamers have at the same time received instructions to lower their Starboard ladder as soon as possible for the convenience of persons wishing to go on board.
By Order,
Colonial Secretary's Office, Hongkong, 7th March, 1863.
