SIR, I have the honor to hand you enclosed herewith copy of a letter from the Commander of this Company's Steamer Pekin, reporting his vessel having (it is supposed) touched on a rock not marked on the Chart.
The position of the danger was communicated to the Commanding Officer of Her Majesty's Ship Swallow at Amoy.- I have the honor to be, Sir, your obedint Servant,

DEAR SIR, I beg herewith to hand you an extract from the Log of the S. S. "Pekin" on a passage from Swatow towards Amoy, as under-
At 2.35 P.M. 17th December 1863 the Ship grounded slightly and passed over something supposed to be a rock, the lead giving 5 fathoms.
Clipper Point N.E. by N. & N.
Bearings True Pagoda Island N. by W. W.
Centre Double Island W. by N. Į N.
The Chart indicates no danger on these bearings nor was any known either to myself or the pilot. The wind blowing at the time fresh, with some sea on-the Ship's draft of water 15 feet 6 inches; and it being necessary to clear Namoa and the dangers to the Southward before dark, no examination of the danger touched could be made.-I am, dear Sir, yours faithfully,

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
Under the provisions of Ordinance No. 11 of 1844, notice is hereby given that a Special Sessions of the Justices of the Peace will be held at the Police Magistrates' Court at eleven o'clock on the fore- noon of Thursday the 4th February, 1864, and thereafter on the first Thursday of every month, for the purpose of considering applications for the transfer of Spirit Licenses.
Such Applications to be lodged at the Police Magistrates' Court, at least Ten days before each of the Sessions now notified.
