GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
All persons whose Crown Lots, Tenements or Occupancies have been assessed to the Police, Lighting and Water Rates for the present year are informed that the Rates for the fourth Quarter are ayable at the Treasury between the first and last days in October next and all parties omitting to ay the same within the period specified will be proceeded against in accordance with the provisions of the XVI clause of the Ordinance No. 5 of 1863.

POST OFFICE NOTIFICATION.
A French mail-packet service having been established between Shanghae and Yokohama (Japan) in connexion with the existing service between Shanghae and Hongkong, it is hereby notified that in future correspondence for Yokohama will be forwarded from this Office by each of the French Packets leaving this place for Shanghae.

POST OFFICE NOTIFICATION.
With reference to the Notification which was published in the Government Gazette No. 20 of the 20th May last, authorising the transmission of Books and Trade Patterns through the Post between Shanghae and the United Kingdom, it is hereby notified that the privilege has been extended to Canton, Swatow, Amoy, Foochow foo and Ningpo on the terms and conditions set forth in the said notification.

POST OFFICE NOTIFICATION.
It is hereby notified for general information that arrangements have been concluded between the British Post Office and the Post Office of Prussia under which Patterns and Samples of Merchandize may be forwarded by the Post through the United Kingdom between Hongkong and Prussia at the same reduced charges and under the same general regulations which govern the transmission of Books:--the postage at the following rates must in all cases be paid in advance.
Not exceeding 2 ounces in weight. 8 cents.
FOR A PACKET OF PATTERNS.
Exceeding 2 ounces and not exceeding
4 ounces.
16 cents.
Exceeding 4 ounces and not exceeding 8 ounces. 32 cents.
And for every additional 8 ounces 32 cents.
Exceeding 8 ounces and not exceeding 1 lb.
64 cents.
The following are the States of Germany to which the new arrangements referred to apply, viz: Prussia, Austria, Bavaria, Saxony, Hanover, Wurtemburg, Baden, Luxemburg, Brunswick, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Oldenburg, Hamburg, Bremen, Lubeck, and the Countries which are included in the Postal District of the Principality of Tour and Taxis, viz.-Frankfort on the Maine, Grand Duchy of Hesse, Hesse (Electoral,) Hesse-Homburg, Schaumburg-Lippe, Lippe- Detmold, Nassau, Reuss, Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Saxe-Meiningen, Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, Hohenzollern, Schwartzburg-Ru- doldstadt, and Schwartzburg-Sonderhausen.
