At the request of Captain Ross, R. N., Senior Naval Officer at Hongkong, the following Hydro- graphic Notice is published for the information of Mariners, and others whom it may concern.

HYDROGRAPHIC NOTICE.
JAPAN. INLAND SEA.
The following information having been received from the Senior Naval Officer at Yokohama, is published for general information.
Her Majesty's Ship Perseus, while passing through the Inland Sea, on the 16th June 1867, struck on a Rock, having the following bearings, viz:—
North end of Ko Sima Island,. East end of Ko Sima Island, West end of Ma Sima Island, North end of Ma Sima Island..
West end of Tsu Sima Island,.
W. 1 S. .S. W. by S.
S. E.
.S. E. & S. N. by E.
This Rock is about 3 Cables from the Island of Ko Sima, and at the time of Survey, low water spring tide, had one fathom of water over it, and was apparently of a rounded knoll shape, about 20 feet in circumference. At a Cable's length all round it a depth of from 5 to 7 fathoms was obtained, beyond this the water suddenly deepened to 20 fathoms.

It is hereby notified that His Excellency The GOVERNOR has been pleased to appoint Mr. C. II. HORDEN, 3rd Clerk in the Colonial Treasury, to be joint Valuator with Mr. COLLINS, under the provisions of "The Police and Lighting Rate Ordinance, 1863."
