THE HONGKONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, 27TH NOVEMBER, 1889.

The Police, Lighting, Fire Brigade, and Water Rates will, under Terms of the Ordinances, be payable Quarterly in advance at the Colonial Treasury, between the first and last Days of the first Month in each Quarter.

These several Rates shall be charged and chargeable on and recoverable from the Owners of the Tenements in respect of which the above Assessments have been made.

POST OFFICE NOTIFICATION.

It is hereby notified for general information that the rates of Postage (which must be paid in advance) chargeable upon Printed Papers and Patterns of Merchandize addressed to Constantinople will henceforward be as follows, viz:

For a Packet not exceeding 2 ounces,....

For a Packet above 2 ounces and not exceeding 4 ounces, For a Packet above 4 ounces and not exceeding 8 ounces,

and so on, adding 4 cents for every additional 4 ounces.

It is hereby notified for general information that, as an experiment, Mails will be made up at this Office, to be forwarded by each homeward British Contract Packet, to the United Kingdom and to places beyond the United Kingdom viâ Brindisi.

All Letters and newspapers intended to be forwarded in these Mails must be specially directed viâ Brindisi, and they will be liable to the following rates of Postage, viz:•

The Postage must be fully prepaid. Unpaid or insufficiently paid Letters, &c., will not be sent via Brindisi. Book Packets and Packets of Patterns will not be forwarded via Brindisi.
