The following Fees shall be payable to the Registrar for the Use of the Crown upon Admission to Practice as an Attorney, and Proctor of the Supreme Court under this Ordinance:-

On the Admission of every Person under Section VI, $50. On the Admission of any Person under Section VII, $250. XXVII. The Chief Justice may from Time to Time make Rules Rules of to be approved by the Governor in Council to define and regulate Practice for the Practice of Barristers, and Attornies respectively, within the the Profession. Colony, and may from Time to Time with the like Approval

repeal or vary the same.

XXVIII. Every Person who shall either directly or indirectly Penalty for practise or act within this Colony as a Barrister, Attorney, or unlawfully Proctor, without having been admitted or enrolled by the Supreme practising. Court either before or after the Passing of this Ordinance,

or as a Public Notary without having been duly registered as herein before provided, or who without possessing any Qualification [No. 6 of 1845 as a Barrister, Attorney, Proctor, or Notary Public, shall act as such or prepare any Document whatever for Fee or Reward, shall be liable for every such Offence to forfeit to the Crown a Penalty not exceeding Two hundred Dollars to be recovered by the Attor ney General upon a Rule or Summons before the Chief Justice.

XXIX. The Supreme Court shall have Power, in Case of the Suspension Infraction of any of the Rules to be made under Section XXVII from Practice or for

any

other reasonable Cause, to suspend from Practice for and Striking any Period any Barrister, Attorney, or Proctor, or to revoke his Admission and Enrolment and remove and strike his Name from the Rolls of the Court.

The following Regulations for an Examination of Candidates for the Civil Service of India, which is to be held in March, 1871, are published for general information.

EXAMINATIONS FOR THE CIVIL SERVICE OF INDIA.

REGULATIONS FOR THE OPEN COMPETITION OF 1871. N.B.-The Regulations are liable to be altered in future years.

1. On Tuesday, March 23, 1871, and following days, an Examination of Candidates will be held in London. At this examination not fewer than these,

for that of Bombay.*-Notice will hereafter be given of the days

and place of examination.

2. Any person desirous of competing at this Examination, must produce to the Civil Service Commissioners, before the 1st of February, 1871, evidence showing:-

(a) That he is natural-born subject of Her Majesty.

That his age, on the 1st March, 1871, will be above seventeen years and under twenty-one years. [N.B.-In the case of Natives of India this must be certified by the Government of India, or of the Presidency or Province in which the Candidate may have resided.]

(c) That he has no disease, constitutional affection, or bodily infirmity unfitting him, or likely to unfit him, for the Civil Service of India.t

(d) That he is of good moral character;

and must also, before the 1st February, 1871, pay to the said Commissioners such fee as the Secretary of State for India may prescribe.‡

3. Should the evidence upon the above points be prima facie satisfactory to the Civil Service Commissioners, the Candidate will, upon payment of the prescribed fee, be admitted to the Examination. The Commissioners may, however, in their discretion, at any time prior to the grant of the Certificate of Qualification hereinafter referred to, institute such further inquiries factory

as they may deem necessary; and if the result of such inquiries, in the case of any Candidate, should be unsatis- to them in any of the above respects, he will be ineligible for admission to the Civil Service of lúdia, and if already selected, will be removed from the position of a Probationer.

*The number of appointments to be made, and the number in cach Fresidency, &c., will be announced herenítor.

Evidence of health and character must bear date not earlier than the 1st January, 1871.

The Fee for this Examination will be £5.
