GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

Owners of Tenements assessed to the Police, Lighting, Water and Fire Brigade Rates, are informed that the Rates are payable in advance during and within the month of April, for the Second Quarter of the year 1870.

which The attention of Rate Payers is drawn to the Second Clause of Ordinance No. 9 of 1869, Clause specifies that in Default in the Payment of Rates, such arrears may be sued for by the Colonial Treasurer in the Court of Summary. Jurisdiction, and a Certificate under the hand of the Treasurer, setting forth the particulars of the sums due for Rates and then outstanding shall be "Prima facie“ evidence of the Facts certified by the Treasurer.

Rate Payers are therefore informed that all Rates in arrear after the 30th April, 1870, will be sued for in accordance with the Provisions of the Clause and Ordinance specified above.

POST OFFICE NOTIFICATION.

It is hereby notified for general information that henceforward the fee for registering cach letter addressed to the undermentioned Foreign Countries, when forwarded in transit through the United Kingdom, will be 16 cents, instead of 24 cents as hitherto, viz:-

POST OFFICE NOTIFICATION.

It is hereby notified that henceforward the rates of postage which must be paid in advance, charge- able on Packets of printed papers or patterns of light weight sent from Hongkong to the United Kingdom by the United States' Packets viâ San Francisco, will be as follows, viz:-

For a packet not exceeding 1 ounce in weight, For a packet above 1 ounce not exceeding 2 ounces,

For a packet above 2 ounces not exceeding 4 ounces,.

and eight cents for every additional four ounces.

These rates apply to Printed Circulars, Price Lists, Market Reports, and all printed papers other than Newspapers, as well as to Books and Trade Patterns or Samples.

It is hereby notified that henceforward Printed papers and patterns posted in Hongkong or in any part of China or Japan, addressed to Alexandria, may be forwarded by the British Mail Packets for a l'ostage of six cents for a packet not exceeding four ounces in weight, with six cents additional

every four ounces in excess, which must be paid in advance.
