The attention of Rate Payers is drawn to the Second Clause of Ordinance No. 9 of 1869, which specifies that in Default in the Payment of Rates, such arrcars may be sued for by the Colonial rer in the Court of Summary Jurisdiction, and a Certificate under the hand of the Treasurer, forth the particulars of the sums due for Rates and then outstanding shall be "Prima facie fence of the Facts certified by the Treasurer.

Rate Payers are therefore informed that all Rates in arrear after the 30th April, 1870, will be 1 for in accordance with the Provisions of the Clause and Ordinance specified above.

By His Excellency SIR RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL, Knight, and Companion of the Most norible Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Ilongkong and its
endencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same.
Whereas by Section III of the "Chinese Passengers Act, 1855,'
"it is enacted that it shall be ful for the Governor of Hongkong by Proclamation for the Purposes of the said Act among other Things to alter the Scales of Medicines and Medical Comforts contained in Schedule 4, of the said Act: Now therefore, I, the said SIR RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL, as such Governor as aforesaid, Do by Proclaim and Declare, that the following Medicines and Medical Comforts shall, from and ter the Date hereof, be added to and comprised within the Scale of Medicines and Medical Comforts ntained in Schedule A. of the said Act, in such Quantities and Proportions as hereinafter mentioned, at is to say:--
