The Estimates having passed through Committee, and the Appropriation Bill being amended in accordance with the foregoing Votes, His Excellency puts the Question-That this Bill as amendcu, do pass, and that the Title be "An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, to apply a Sum not exceeding Six hundred and Eighty-eight thousand Dollars to the Public Service of the Year 1872."

Question put and carried,—the Ordinance being numbered "No. 9 of 1871.”

The Honorable the Colonial Secretary lays on the Table the Special Fund Account for the Half Year

ending 30th June, 1871.

His Excellency then adjourns the Council at 5 Minutes before 5 P.M.

The following Bills, which were read a first time at a Meeting of the Legislative Council held this day, are published for general information.

An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, to authorize the "Hongkong Pier and Godown Company, Limited," to construct a Pier in the Harbor of Victoria, and to confer upon the said Company certain other Powers and Privileges.

HEREAS under the Provisions of the "Companies Ordi- W

nance, 1865," a Public Company has been formed and registered in the Name of the " Hongkong Pier and Godown Company, Limited;" for the Purpose of constructing, with the Consent of the Crown, a Public Pier in the Harbor of Victoria, and for other Purposes, in relation to the Loading, Discharging, and Storing of Cargo; And Whereas the said Company have applied to the Government of the Colony to confer upon them the neces- sary Powers for carrying out the Objects thereof, by means of a Public Ordinance, and it is expedient that such an Ordinance should be granted to the said Company under and subject to the Conditions, Restrictions and Provisions hereinafter contained: Be it therefore enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-

I. In the Interpretation of this Ordinance, the Expression "the Company" shall mean the "Hongkong Pier and Godown Company, Limited."
