GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

Some misapprehension appearing to exist as to the Hour at which Passes are to be used with Lighted Lamps or Lanterns, it is hereby made known,--

That Lighted Lamps or Lanterns are required from 7 P.M. to 5 A.M., and that, from 9 P.M. to Sunrise, Passes as well as Lighted Lamps or Lanterns are required.

This does not apply to the Holders of Annual or Special Passes.

His Excellency Major-General WHITFEILD, Commanding Her Majesty's Troops in China and Japan, and Lieutenant-Governor of Hongkong and its Dependencies, has been pleased to appoint FRANCIS DOUGLAS, Esquire, to be a Justice of the Peace for this Colony, and he has taken the Oaths of Office accordingly.
