The following Notice from the Acting Harbor Master is published for general information.

NOTICE.

J. GARDINER AUSTIN, Colonial Secretary.

Whereas an impression appears to prevail amongst the Charterers of Stearners (more especially for Singapore) that an application for exemption from the provisions of Emigration Ordinance No. 4 of 1870 is sufficient to obtain exemption also from the Provisions of the "Chinese Fassengers Act, 1855,” it is hereby notified that the Provisions of the "Chinese Passengers Act, 1855" are in no wise affected by Ordinance No. 4 of 1870, and that no Ship carrying more than 20 Passengers being Natives of Asia can be allowed to clear from Hongkong, upon a voyage of more than 7 days' duration according to the Proclamations issued by the Governor of Hongkong under Section III of the said Act, without the Certificate of the Emigration Officer, and without having conformed in all other respects to the Regu lations of the said Act.
