PROCLAMATION.

VOL. XVII.

By His Excellency HENRY WASE WHITFEILD, Major-General Commanding Her Majesty's Troops in China and Japan, and Lieutenant-Governor of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies.

Whereas the Commands of Her Most Gracious Majesty The QUEEN, conveyed through The Right Honorable The Earl of KIMBERLEY, Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, have been received, approving of and confirming the following Ordinance; namely

No. of 1839, entitlo!-An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, to provide for the Payment out of the Revenue of the Colony of Expenses incurred in the Relief of Distressed British Seamen belonging to Ships registered in this Colony :

Now, therefore, it is hereby declared, that the said Ordinance has been so approved and confirmed, as aforesaid.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

Tenders will be received at this Office until Noon, on Monday, the 17th instant, for the making up of the Summer Clothing of the Police Force.

Forms of Tender and other particulars may be obtained on application at the Office of the Captain Superintendent of Police.

The Government does not bind itself to accept the lowest or any Tender.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

His Excellency Major-General WHITFEILD, Commanding Her Majesty's Troops in China and Japan, and Lieutenant-Governor of Hongkong and its Dependencies, has been pleased to appoint ROBERT HANNAH CAIRNS, Esquire, to be Acting Harbor Master, Marine Magistrate, and Emigration Oficer, vice H. G. TOMSETT, Esquire, R.N., absent on leave, or until further notice.
