GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

Notice is hereby given, that His Excellency The Lieutenant-Governor in Council, under and in pursuance of Ordinance No. 14 of 1862, entitled "An Ordinance for granting Patents for Inventions rithin this Colony," has granted Letters Patent, for the exclusive use within the Colony of Hengkong and its Dependencies, of the following Inventions for which Her Majesty's Letters Patent have been obtained in England, unto the Persons and for the Periods hereinafter mentioned; that is to say:-

(1.) To Sir WILLIAM THOMSON, of the City of Glasgow, Knight, for securing to him the exclu- sive right of using an Invention for "Improvements in testing and working Electric Telegraphs," for the residue of the term of 14 Years from the 20th Day of February,

(2.) To Sir WILLIAM THOMSON, of the City of Glasgow, Knight, for securing to him the exclu- sive right of using an Invention for "Improvements in receiving or recording Instruments "for Electric Telegraphs," for the residue of the term of 14 Years from the 23rd Day of July, 1867.

(3.) To CROMWELL FLEETWOOD VARLEY, of Fleetwood House, Beckenham, in the County of Kent, Civil Engineer and Electrician, for securing to him the exclusive right of using an Invention for "Improvements in Electric Telegraphs, part of the Invention being applicable "to other purposes," for the residue of the terin of 14 Years from the 27th Day of January, 1860.

(4.) To CROMWELL FLEETWOOD VARLEY, of Fleetwood House, Beckenham, in the County of Kent, Civil Engineer and Electrician, for securing to him the exclusive right of using an Invention for "Improvements in Electric Telegraphs," for the residue of the term of 14 Years from the 26th Day of December, 1862.

(5.) To Sir WILLIAM THOMSON, of the City of Glasgow, Knight, and FLEEMING JENKIN, of the City of Edinburgh, Professor of Engineering in the University there, for securing to them the exclusive right of using an Invention "for Improvement in the means of Telegraphic "Communication," for the residue of the term of 14 Years from the 25th Day of August,

1860.

(6.) To Sir WILLIAM THOMSON, of the City of Glasgow, Knight, and CROMWELL FLEETWOOD VARLEY, of Fleetwood House, Beckenham, in the County of Kent, Civil Engineer and Electrician, for securing to them the exclusive right of using an Invention for "Improve- ments in Electric Telegraphs," for the residue of the term of 14 Years from the 6th Day of July, 1865.
