It is hereby notified that, in pursuance of Instructions from the Right Honorable the Secretary of State for the Colonies, His Excellency the Governor has appointed the Honorable JULIAN PAUNCEFOTE to be Acting Chief Justice of the Colony of Hongkong.
The Honorable JULIAN PAUNCEFOTE has been this day sworn into Office accordingly.

It is hereby notified that, until further Notice, the One Dollar Notes of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation will be received at the Colonial Treasury, as well as by the Sub-Collectors of Revenue, in payment of Government Dues.

FIRE BRIGADE OFFICE, HONGKONG, 5th October, 1872. SIR,-I have the honor to forward to you, to be submitted for the information of His Excellency the Governor, the Report of the Government Fire Brigade for the month of September ultimo.
An Inspection of the Brigade, Engines, Hose (in use and in store) and Implements, was made on the 20th September; all were found correct, clean and in order. The three Hand Engines were worked for two or three minutes.
A Parade and Inspection were held on the 1st October instant; the assembly took place at the Cross Roads at 5 P. M., and thence the whole of the Government Engines and three Engines of Chinese Associations were taken to the Praya, West, and worked from the sea; all were found in order.
