An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, for the Prevention of the Carriage of dangerous Goods on board Foreign Ships without due Notice.

Title.

WHEREAS it is expedient to extend the Operation of Section Preamble.

329 of "The Merchant Shipping Act, 1854" to Foreign

Ships when within the Limits of this Colony: Be it therefore enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-

I. The Provisions of the 329th Section of the "The Merchant Provisions as Shipping Act, 1854" shall extend to Foreign Ships when within the to carrying Limits of the Colony of Hongkong.

Carrying Dangerous Goods.

329. No Person shall be entitled to carry in any Ship, or to Provisions to require the Master or Owner of any Ship to carry therein any prevent the

taking Aquafortis, Oil of Vitriol, Gunpowder or any other Goods which, dangerous in the Judgment of such Master or Owner, are of a dangerous Goods on Nature; and if any Person carries or sends by any Ship any Goods Board without of a dangerous Nature without distinctly marking their Nature on due Notice. the Outside of the Package containing the same, or otherwise giving Notice in Writing to the Master or Owner at or before the Time of carrying or sending the same to be shipped, he shall for every such Offence incur a Penalty not exceeding One Hundred Pounds; and the Master or Owner of any Ship may refuse to take on Board any Parcel that he suspects to contain Goods of a dangerous Nature, and may require them to be opened to ascertain the Fact.

It is hereby notified that, for the ensuing Twelve Months from the 1st August, 1872, the Eastern and Western Slaughter Houses are held by Tsé Wai Chün, and Wai Wa Ping, of Victoria, Hongkong, Traders.
