An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, to authorize the Appropriation of a Supplementary Sum not exceeding Ninety-nine thousand Dollars to defray the Charges of the Year 1871.

[23rd July, 1872.] HEREAS it has become necessary to make further Provi- sion for the Public Service of the Colony for the Year 1871, in addition to the Charge upon the Revenue for the Service of the said Year already provided for in the Estimates submitted to the Legislative Council: Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-

Preamble.
I. A Sum not exceeding Ninety-nine thousand Dollars shall be Supplement- and the same is hereby charged upon the Revenue of this Colony for ary Estimates, the Service of the Year 1871, the said Sum so charged being 1871. expended as hereinafter specified; that is to say:--

An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, for registering Births and Deaths in Hongkong.

Title.
HEREAS it is expedient to provide the Means for a complete Preamble.
Register of the Births and Deaths of the Inhabitants of
the Colony of Hongkong: Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:
of Births and
I. The Office of the Registrar General shall be "The General Registrar Register Office" for keeping a Register of all Births and Deaths General to be of the Inhabitants of the Colony of Hongkong, and the Registrar Chief Registrar General shall be the Chief Registrar of all such Births and Deaths. Deaths. II. District Registers of Births and Deaths shall be kept at such District Police Stations in the City of Victoria, and at such other Stations Registers to be in the Villages which may be hereafter declared by the Governor established at to be Register Offices, and the Inspector, Sergeant or other certain Places. Police Officer for the Time being in charge of such Station shall
be a Registrar of all Births and Deaths occurring within the District, Place or Village where such Police Station is situate.
III. All Registers of the Births and Deaths of the Chinese Registers of Population of the Colony shall be kept in both the English and Chinese Births, Chinese Languages.
&c., to be kept in English and Chinese.
IV. The Registrar General shall cause to be printed on account Register Books of the said Register Office a sufficient Number of Register Books to be provided. for making Entries of all Births and Deaths of the Inhabitants of the Colony of Hongkong according to the Form of Schedules (A) and (B) to this Ordinance annexed; and the said Register Books
