The Commander of the Government Steamer Hertog Bernard found by many observations the position of North Tiger Island to be in latitude 6° 21′ South, and longitude 121° 3′ East from Greenwich,
The master of the Xantho reports a safe passage to the N. N. W., between "Kalao Toea" and "Postpaard Island," for ships coming from the South. North Tiger Island is visible from a vessel's deck at a distance of 8 miles. No anchorage was found.

The following Notice to Mariners, received from the Admiralty, is published for general information.

The substance of this Notice, as soon as it is received on board, is to be inserted in red ink on the Charts affected by it; and introduced into the margin, or otherwise in the page, of the Sailing Directions to which it relates. See Instructions, Navigation and Pilotage, p. 172.

CHINA-EAST COAST.
Fixed and Flashing Light on Chapel Island.
With reference to Notice to Mariners, No. 110, dated 21st October 1870, on the establishment of a light on Chapel island, near Amoy :-- The Marine Commissioner's Office at Shanghai has given Notice, that the light is now exhibited.
The light is a fixed and flashing white light, the flashes being shown every half minute, elevated 227 feet above the level of high water, and in clear weather should be seen from a distance of 22 miles.
The illuminating apparatus is dioptric or by lenses, of the first order.
The tower, 63 feet high, is painted black; the keeper's dwelling and wall are painted white. Position, lat. 24° 10′ 20′′ N., long, 118° 13′ 30′′ E.
WUSUNG RIVER. Wusung Light and Bar.
Also, with reference to Notice to Mariners, No. 66, dated 28th August 1871, on a light in Wusung river, further Notice has been given that the present light is a fixed white catoptric light.
The lighthouse is nearly a quarter of a mile S. W. by S. from fort A, or in lat 31° 23′ 20′′ N., long. 121° 29′ 30′′ E.
The light bears from the centre of the navigable channel S.W. by W. W.
And further, that a lighthouse is in course of construction close to the one from which the light is now exhibited, and when completed will exhibit a white light through the channel and a red light over the remainder of the river. This light is expected to be exhibited in May 1872.
Also, that from the 1st January 1872, the two red buoys, marking the channel over the Wusung Bar, would be removed.
Langshan Crossing.
Also, that until further Notice, it is recommended that vessels should pass to the eastward of the Langshan light-vessel, as the Waterman, or Middle bank is rapidly extending to the eastward.
