32. Giving a Total of Registered Letters sent in 1871, of 5,008 against 3,748 sent in 1870, and a Total of Registered Letters received of 5,365 in 1871, against 4,885 received in 1870; this increase in the Registration Department has been productive of much extra labor, whilst the additional revenue derived from it is comparatively small.

33. The amount realized by the sale of Postage Stamps in 1871, was $138,910.40. Stamps of the value of $78,405.60 were sold in Hongkong, and the remainder, viz.; $60,504.80, at the Post Office Agencies at the Ports, shewing a decrease of $6,852.52 in those sold in Hongkong, and an increase of $1,631.44 in those sold at the Ports, as compared with 1870.
