GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

Notice is hereby given, that Tenders for the Privilege of preparing and selling Prepared Opium within the Colony for the term of Three Years, from the 1st March next, under the Provisions of Ordinance No. 2 of 1858, will be received at this Office, until Noon on Monday, the 24th January, 1876.

Every Tender should specify the amount per mensem for the period above-mentioned.

Each Person tendering must produce a receipt to the effect that he has deposited in the Colonial Treasury the Sum of $5,000 as a pledge of the bona fides of his offer, which Sum shall be forfeited to the Crown, if such Person shall fail to carry out his Tender.

The Government does not bind itself to accept the highest, or any Tender.

The information contained in this notice is to be carefully considered, to be noted in the Sailing Directions, and compared with the chart when the ship is navigating the parts to which it refers.

HYDROGRAPHIC NOTICE. [No. 24.]

EASTERN ARCHIPELAGO, Salayer Strait.-Pasi Island.

The following information relating to the Whale shoal, on which the British barque Evelyn, drawing 17 feet, grazed in January 1875, has been received from Captain H. B. Woollcombe, R.N., H.M.S. Thalia, 1875:-

[All Bearings are Magnetic. Variation 0° 30′ Easterly in 1875.]

Whale Shoal, about a quarter of a mile in extent, with 12 feet on it, and 4 fathoms close to, is reported by the master of the Evelyn to lie about four miles W.N.W. from the north end of Pasi island, otherwise known as Hog island.

From the shoalest part of Whale shoal the north end of Pulo Salayer bears N.N.E.; and the south-west extremes of Pasi island and Pulo Salayer are in line.

PHILIPPINE ISLANDS.

Surigao Strait.

The following information relating to a sunken rock, Surigao strait, on which the Spanish schooner Anguis struck, has been received from the Spanish Government, 1875:—†

The rock is reported by the Captain of the schooner to be a pinnacle rock with 6 feet water on it, 5 to 64 fathoms close to, and deep water all around."

The position assigned to the rock is in latitude 9° 51′ 30′′ N., longitude 125° 28′ 44′′ E., or about one mile N. E. from Basol island.
