THE HONGKONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, 3RD JULY, 1875.
8.-The Court is of opinion that no blame is attributable to the Captain or Officers of the Poyang, and that everything appears to have been done that was possible to save the vessel and the lives of the Passengers and Crew.
9.-The Poyang was built in 1860 at New York, and there is nothing in the evidence to show, she was other than sound, or had any known defect in the Hull or Machinery on the day of the loss.
The Court has no information of any vessel of similar build plying between Hongkong and Macao meeting with any serious misfortune when at sea, anterior to the present; but the Court is unani- mously and decidedly of opinion, that during the S.W. monsoon, steam vessels of this construction are unsafe for this line, being unadapted for other than River Traffic.
Given under our hands at Hongkong, this 30th day of June, 1875.
