The following Report from the Registrar General, containing Returns of Births and Deaths for the Quarter ending 31st March, 1875, is published for general information.

REGISTRAR GENERAL'S OFFICE, VICTORIA, HONGKONG, 24th April, 1875. SIR, I have the honour to forward the Returns of Births and Deaths for the First Quarter of 1875, ending March 31st.
During that period, a total of 411 Births and 694 Deaths has been registered in Victoria and the four districts of Shau-ki Wán, Stanley, Aberdeen and Kowloon.
Of this number, 35 Births, being those of 20 Boys and 15 Girls, occurred amongst persons other than Chinese.
The Deaths in this class number 39, of whom 13 were non-residents. The remainder are thus distributed as regards nationality:-

The Death rate of the Quarter amongst the British and Foreign Community is 24.29, and amongst the Chinese 22.67 annually for every thousand persons living. For the whole population of the Colony, the rate is 22.75 for every thousand persons.
If the deaths of non-residents be deducted, the death rate of the resident British and Foreign Community is only 20.91 for every thousand annually.

The following Gentlemen have been nominated by His Excellency the Administrator to be Trustees on behalf of the Government for St. JOHN's Cathedral Church, for the year 1875-76, under the provisions of Ordinances No. 2 of 1847, and No. 3 of 1850:—

The Honorable CHARLES May is also appointed on the same behalf, to be Auditor of the Cathedral Accounts.
It has also been notified to the Government that the Honorable HENRY LOWCOCK, and JAMES GREIG, Esquire, have been elected Trustees, and HENRY SMITH, Esquire, Auditor on behalf of the Seat-holders.
