Pitman-King Crossing to be Abandoned.
NEW CROSSING TO BE OPENED TO NAVIGATION.
NOTICE is hereby given that on or about the 10th October, 1920, tho Pitman-King Crossing will be closed, the Spit Buoy and the Crossing Light-boat discontinued, and a new crossing opened to navigation.
This new crossing, which will be known as the Cooper Bank Crossing, will be marked by the following aids to navigation:--
A Light-beacon, exhibiting two white unclassed lights hoisted vertically and 6 feet apart, will be established on the south shore of the Pitman-King Channel in a position from which the Beacon on Kiushan Quoin will bear about S. 46° E., distant 17 miles. This Beacon will be known as South Beacon.
A Light-boat, exhibiting a seventh order fixed white light, will be moored in about 23 feet of water on the southern side of the eastern entrance to the new crossing. From the Light-boat the Beacon on Kiushan Quoin will bear about S. 46° E., distant 3:34 miles. This Light-boat will be known as Cooper Bank Crossing Light-boat.
The Big Tree Light-boat will be moved 184 miles N. 52 E. from its present position and will mark the fairway in the northern approach to the western entrance to the new crossing.
This new crossing should carry a least through depth of 21 feet at low water of extraordinary spring tides.
CAUTION.
Owing to the strong cross sets of the tides on the new crossing, it will be necessary for navigators to proceed with caution.
All bearings given are magnetic, and depths are those of low water of extraordinary spring tides.
