The following Despatch received from The Right Honorable The EARL OF CARNARVON, Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, conveying the expression of Her Majesty's sincere regret for the sufferings occasioned by the Typhoon of 23rd September, 1874, is published for general information.

SIR, I submitted for the perusal of THE QUEEN, your Despatches describing the violent hurricane of the 23rd September.
In returning the Despatches to me, Her Majesty has expressed to me Her sincere regret for the sufferings which have been occasioned by this sad calamity.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
The following positions of rocks and directions for their avoidance, supplied by the Surveying Officers of H. M. S. Challenger, are published for general information, and are to supersede the Notices published in the Hongkong Government Gazette of the 5th July, 1873; 4th March, 2nd May and 27th June, 1874.
The corrections and additions may be seen at the Office of the Harbor Master.

Busansiah Rock.-Is a pinnacle rock awash at low water, and from it, Chunghue Rock is in line with the South part of Chunghue Island E. b N.; and the East extreme of Cow-e-chau Island is in line with the West extreme of Lamma Island S. b E. E. Close around it are soundings of from 8 to 10 fathoms.
Sunken Reef marked on the Chart as lying of the N. W. point of Lamma Island. This danger does not exist, but a rock awash at low water lies N. b W. W. a little over a cable's length from the rock above water off that point. To avoid this danger, the S.W. point of Lamma Island should be kept pen of the West point of the same Island S. b E. E. until Tree Island is open of the North point of Lamma Island E. & N.
Bokhara Rock.-Is a 3 fathoms pinnacle on the outer edge of a 10 fathoms patch which lies to the North eastward of Cape D'Aguilar. When at anchor on the Pinnacle: Tathong Rock is in
