No. 155.
Experimental Tide Gauge.
NOTICE is hereby given that an experimental Tide gauge has been erected at Collinson Reach Barrier Light Station and on the Beacon marking the Northern end of the Steamer Passage through Cambridge Barrier.
Each Tide gauge has a clock face over which a hand travels indicating the existing depth of water. The faces are illuminated during hours of darkness.
Commanding Officers of vessels are hereby cautioned that these gauges are at present of an experimental nature only. Their indications should, therefore, be checked by the board gauges at Tide Pole Light and Cambridge Barrier.
This Office will be obliged if captains will kindly note these gauges and record the approximate distance at which their indications are visible by day and night, and the accuracy, or otherwise, of the clock face indications as compared with the board gauges. It is also requested that they will express in writing their opinions as to the utility, or otherwise, of the gauges.
