5. Ip A-fat, an opium seller, was, on the 11th instant, convicted of having in his possession a quantity of prepared opium, without a permit from the opium farmer, and sentenced to pay a fine of $50, in default, six weeks' imprisonment with hard labour.

6. Chaú Tong-shing, a marine hawker, was convicted on the 12th instant, of buying from one Patrick Gounley, a deserter of Her Majesty's
27th Regiment, a kit, the property of the Queen, and sentenced to pay a fine of £20, in default,
six months' imprisonment with hard labour.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
HONGKONG SUBSIDIARY SILVER COINS.
Notice is hereby given that these Coins, of the
respective values of 20 cents, 10 cents and 5
cents each, can be obtained at par by application
to the Colonial Treasurer.
Not more than $100 nor less than $10 worth
will be issued to each applicant in the following
proportion, viz.:-
10 per cent. of 20-cent pieces.
