Summary of cases deserving notice decided at
the Magistracy of Hongkong, from 3rd to 9th May, 1879, both days inclusive.
Assandt.
1. Yéung A-ngan, a female, was convicted on the 6th instant of assaulting one Chan Kam-yáu another female, and fined $15, in default fourteen day's' imprisonment with hard labour, and to pay $15 amends to the coinplainant, or fourteen days' further imprisonment with hard labour, also to enter into her personal recognizance in $50 to be of good behaviour for one year.
Larceny from the person.
2. Ch'an A-t'ai, a caulker, was convicted and sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard
labour for stealing a pair of earrings from the
person of a female named Li A-shun near Gap Street on the 3rd instant, The prisoner was recognised as having been twice previously con- victed and punished for larceny.

Breach of The Excise Ordinance
(Opium) 1858-1879.”
3. Chéung A-fu and Wong A-kam, night soil coolies, were convicted on the 5th instant of hav- ing possession of prepared opium without a licence from the Opium Farmer, and sentenced to pay a fine of $150 and $50 respectively, in default to be respectively imprisoned for three months and one month. Half of the fine (if paid), and all opium found, were ordered to be given to the Opium Farmer.
