GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.-No. 288.

The following Telegram has been received from Her Britannic Majesty's Consul at Batavia :-

'In consequence volcanic action configuration Sunda Straits and Southern Entrance thereto

changed some islands disappeared upheavals suspected Anjer with Lighthouse destroyed probably "other Lighthouses in neighbourhood damaged survey proceeding recommend mariners exercise

extreme caution please inform Admiral also Treaty Ports and Japan Manila."
