Bu it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows :-
1. This Ordinance may be cited for all purposes as Short Title. "The Life Insurance Companies Ordinance, 1906.”
2. In this Ordinance—
The term "Life Insurance Company," except where Interpreta

any person or persons whatsoever orany associa- terms. tion, corporate or unincorporate, not being estab)- lished under any Ordinance relating to friendly societies, who issue or are or become liable under policies of insurance upon human life within the Colony, or who grant annuities upon human life within the Colony, or by any other means carry On the business of life insurance within the Colony; and shall include companies established out of Hongkong as well as those established in Hongkong: and shall include mutual associations as well as proprie- tary, and shall include a company registered in Hongkong which carries on the business of life insurance in China.
The term "carry on the business of life insurance
shall include the receipt either directly or through an agent of applications for policies of insurance on human life, or for annuities upon human life, and the receipt either directly or through an agent of premiums, or other pay- ments, for or in respect of such policies or annuities; whether such policies or annuities are or are not issued or payable within the Colony, and whether the company has or has not an office within the Colony.
The term "Chairman
"
means the person for the rime being presiding over the board of direc- tors of any company.
