John Will, commanding the Mitsui Bussau Kaisha's steamer "Tsukushi maru" reports that, she touched on an unknown rock while approaching Habomai anchorage S. E. coast of Nemoro peninsula from westward, October 1891, and from it the following bearings were taken :--

At the time she (drawing 17 feet) touched, the lead gave 14 fathoms on the starboard side so that it must be a pinnacle, but its top or shallowest part was searched without success, as our least cast was 3 fathoms, and weather was bad.
