GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.-No. 505.
His Excellency the Governor, with the consent of His Excellency the General Officer Command- ing, has been pleased to direct that Captain JOHN MCCALLUM, Hongkong Volunteer Corps, be placed on the supernumerary list, and to appoint Lieutenant ARTHUR CHAPMAN, Hongkong Volunteer Corps, to be a Captain in the Corps, with effect from the 1st January, 1897.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.-No. 506.
His Excellency the Governor has given his assent, in the name and on behalf of the QUEEN, to the following Ordinances passed by the Legislative Council:-

Ordinance No. 21 of 1896.-An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, to appropriate a sum equivalent to seventeen and a half per centum of the Colonial Revenues as a contribution for the Defence of the Colony.
Ordinance No. 22 of 1896.—An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice
and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, to apply a sum not exceeding Two Millions Three hundred and Fifty-nine thousand Seven hundred and Eighty-nine Dollars to the Public Service of the Year 1897.
