GOVERNMENT HOUSE, HONGKONG, 14th July, 1897.

SIR,-As the representative of the Queen in this Colony, I have the honour to request you, in your capacity of Chairman, to convey to the Jubilee Committee an expression of my high appreciation of their valuable services in connexion with the recent commemoration of the Sixtieth Year of Her Majesty's Reign.

The befitting manner in which the historic and memorable occasion was celebrated in this Colony reflects the greatest credit on the Committee generally and merits my grateful acknowledgments. To the Chairman, the Honorary Treasurer, and the Honorary Secretary, upon whom the greater share of responsibility and work must necessarily have fallen, my special thanks are due, and it is my intention to convey an expression of my gratitude to cach of those officers individually.
