EXECUTIVE COUNCIL.

Hong Kong.

Rules as to the conduct of examinations instituted for persons who wish to procure colonial certificates of competency as engineers in the Mercantile Marine, and as to the qualifications of the applicants, laid down and made by the Governor in Council under section 4 (8) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance, 1899, Ordinance No. 10 of 1899, on the 18th day of June, 1931.

RULES.

1. These rules are laid down in pursuance of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance, 1899, and are supplemental to the rules made by the Governo in Council under section 4 (8) of the said Ordinance and published in the Gazette of the 24th December, 1930, as Government Notification No. 770 and in the Gazette of the 27th March, 1931, as Govern- ment Notification No. 180.

2. The rules set forth in the said Notification No. 180 are hereby amended as follows,-

(1) in rule 10, last paragraph,-for "remitted to the Principal Examiner"

substitute "referred to the Principal Examiner ".

(2) in rule 14-for "Second Class Engineer's Certificate

(3) in rule 30-substitute "Certificate" for the misprint of that word. (4) in rule 32-substitute "preserve" for the misprint of that word. (5) in rule 47-for "10 a.m." substitute "9.30 a.m.”.

(7) in Appendix A, part or section (III)—add,

(a)-CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

Mechanical Engineering.-Two thirds of time to count with a maximum of two years for four year

students.

Electrical Engineering.---Half time to count with a maximum of eighteen months.

(b)—AUCKLAND COLLEGE,

Mechanical Engineering.-Half time to count with a maximum of eighteen months for three year

students.

Electrical Engineering.-Half time to count with a maximum of one year.
