FRENCH INDO-CHINA TERRITORIAL WATERS.
AREAS DANGEROUS TO NAVIGATION.
1. The navigation is dangerous on the approaches of the Hon-Dau Lighthouse, lat. 20° 40′ N., long, 106° 48′ E. (Approx.) in the open sea of Kua-Num-Trieu north of parallel of Norway Island, lat. 20° 39′ N., long. 107° 00′ E. (approx.) and west of meri- dian of Norway Island.
Vessels wishing to proceed to Haiphong, lat. 20° 52' N., long. 106° 40′ E. (approx.), Port Redon, lat. 20° 59′ N., long. 106° 46′ E. (approx.) shall present themselves for examination at a distance of 3 miles on a bearing 135° from the Hon-Dau Lighthouse and to follow the instructions of the Examination Vessel and Pilot Vessel.
2. The navigation is dangerous in all passages of the Halong Bay, from Fai-Tsi-Long, lat. 20° 52′ N., long. 107° 07′ E. (approx.) to the Wallut Port, lat. 21° 12′ N., long. 107° 33′ E. (approx.).
Vessels wishing to proceed to Hongay Port, lat. 20° 57' N., long. 107° 03′ E. (approx.), Campha Port, lat. 21° 04′ N, long. 107° 21′ E. (approx.) and Wallut Port shall present themselves or anchor at a distance of 1 mile to the south of Orange Islet, lat. 20° 44' N., loug. 107° 10' E. (approx.) and to follow the instructions of the Exami- nation Vessel and Pilot Vessel.

Search Patrol established.
The Netherlands East Indies Authorities have announced the establishment of
a Search Patrol for the following ports:-
(1) Tanjong Priok. Lat. 6° 06′ E., long. 106° 53′ E. (approx.).
(2) Surabaya. (West and East entrance).
(3) Balik Papan. Lat. 1° 17' S., long. 116° 48′ E. (approx.).
(4) Tarakan Island. Lat. 3° 23' N., long. 117° 36' E. (approx.).
(5) Chilachap Inlet (Tjilatjap) lat. 7° 45′ S., long. 109° 03′ E. (approx.).
The following notes on this subject are mentioned on page XII of the Mariner's Guide for the Netherlands Indies Archipelago:-
"During manoeuvres and exercises and in some cases for other reasons it may be necessary to prohibit the entrance of vessels to N. I. ports and harbours, or only to do so subject to restrictions. In exceptional cases "three red balls" three red lights", one above the other, will be shown in the ports mentioned above meaning that entrance is strictly prohibited on account of extraordinary circumstances.
