ORDINANCE No. 38 of 1932. (PRISONS).

By virtue and in exercise of the powers conferred by section 17 of the Prisons Ordinance, 1932, the Governor in Council amends the Prison Rules, set out on pages 181 to 246 of the Regulations of Hong Kong, 1844-1925, as follows:-

Amendment.

Rule 276 is rescinded and the following rule substituted therefor :--

Prisoners shall be classified as follows :-

Classifica-

Long term previous offenders.

Short term previous offenders.

Long term first offenders.

Short term first offenders.

Petty offenders.

Misdemeanants.

Debtors.

Destitutes.

Juveniles.

Females.

On remand and awaiting trial.

In this rule-

(a) "previous offender' means a person who before the sentence he is serving has served a term of imprisonment exceeding one month;

(b) "long term offender" means a person sentenced to imprisonment for one year or more;

(c) "short term offender' means a person sentenced to imprisonment for less than one year and more than one month;

(d) "petty offender' means а person sentenced to imprisonment (or detention) for one month or less.
