NOTICE TO MARINERS.

Establishment of San José Island Light, Pacific Side.

1. On or about September 26, 1918, San José Island Light will be established on the south-western extremity of San José Island, Pearl Island Group, Republic of Panama. 2. This light will be flashing, white, unwatched; exhibited from a pyramidal, skeleton steel structure 15 feet high, painted white.

Visible 18 miles.

Focal plane, 126 feet above high water. Illuminant, acetylene gas, 1,000 candle power.

Arc of illumination from 40° 30′ true to 334° 30′ true. Light will be obscured

to the north the remaining 66°.

Characteristic: 5 seconds Light; 7 seconds Dark.

Approximate position: Lat. 8° 12' 03" North; Long. 79° 07′ 45′′ West.

NOTICE is hereby given that, the candle power and the visible distance of the light of Himesaki lighthouse, entrance to Yebisu harbour, Province of Sado, have been increased as follows since the 16th October, 1918:-

Himesaki Lighthouse.

Power:-1,250 candles.

Visiblity:-18 nautical miles in clear night.

West Coast of Karafuto.

NOTICE is hereby given that, the following lighthouse, which is now in course of construction on Kenushi-Misaki, West coast of Karafuto, will be exhibited in near future:-

Kenushi Misaki Lighthouse.

Position:-Lat. 46° 36' N., Long. 141° 48' 50" E. (According to Japanese

Admiralty Chart No. 33.)

Description:---Octagonal concrete tower, painted white.

Height of light-50 Shaku above the base, 215 Shaku above the water. Character of light :-Fourth order group flashing white, showing a double flash- ing in quick succession during 8 seconds followed by an eclipse of 22 seconds.

Illuminated are:-- An arc 207° 10', from N. 10° 30′ E. through E. and S. to

S. 37° 40′ W. (Magnetic bearings taken from seaward.)

Power:--2,500 candles.

Visible Distance:-21 nautical miles in clear night.

Further notice will be given after the above light has been effected. TOKYO, October 30th, 1918.
