APPOINTMENTS, &c.

No. 1314. It is hereby notified that Mr. THOMAS EDWARD JACKSON resumed duty as Senior Surveyor of Ships, on 21st November, 1940.

No. 1315.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government under instructions received from His Majesty through the Secretary of State, has been pleased to appoint, subject to His Majesty's pleasure. Captain ALFRED CREIGHTON COLLINSON, Royal Navy, Commodore in charge of Naval Establishments, Hong Kong, to be an additional Official Member of the Executive Council, with effect from 27th November, 1940.

No. 1316.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to approve the following promotions in the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps with effect from 21st November, 1940 :-

Second Lieutenant JOSE MARIA MACHADO ALVES to be Lieutenant. Second Lieutenant DOUGLAS JAMES SMYTH CROZIER to be Lieutenant. Company Sergeant Major FRANCIS BRETT to be Second Lieutenant. Sergeant Michael George CaRRUTHERS to be Second Lieutenant.

No. 1317.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to make, under regulation 9 of the Hong Kong Naval Volunteer Force, the following appointments in the Hong Kong Naval Volunteer Force --

No. 1318.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to appoint, under the provisions of section 3, sub-section (1), of the Factories and Workshops Ordinance No. 18 of 1937, Mr. LAU YAN-CHEUK () to be an Assistant Inspector of Labour, Factories and Workshops, with effect from 2nd December, 1940.

No. 1319.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to appoint Mr. JOHN REDMAN, B.Sc. Tech., A.M.C.T., A.I.C., to act as Govern- ment Chemist during the absence on leave of Mr. VICTOR CECIL. BRANSON, M.C., A.R.C.S., B.Sc., D.I.C., F.I.C., with effect from the 2nd December, 1940.
